SR22 Insurance in Anchorage, Alaska
Sometimes a driver needs to file an SR22, sometimes called high-risk insurance. It's a form filed with the state that confirms you're carrying insurance. If your policy lapses, your insurer notifies the state right away with an SR26 form, which cancels the SR22.
SR22 coverage usually costs more than a standard policy, though the coverage itself is no different; it's the filing that changes. Some companies won't write a policy for drivers who need an SR22, and your current insurer may even drop you if the requirement comes up mid-policy.
There are a number of reasons someone might need an SR22, including:
- Receive a Driving Under the Influence ticket
- Too many speeding tickets
- Reckless Driving conviction
- Too many accidents
And more.
Needing an SR22 isn't the end of the world; we handle this every day. Most of our carriers file directly with the state, and in many cases you can walk out of our office with your SR22 form in hand.
"But I don't even own a car! Why do I need an SR22?"
That's called a non-owners SR22. The form isn't tied to a vehicle; it's tied to your driver's license. Requirements vary by state, so talk to your Alaska Service Agency agent about exactly what you'll need.
